Join us for the final forum of 2024 with the theme of ‘Belonging’, as we explore the transformative power of professional and personal circles. Guest speaker, Nicola Lipscombe, will help you ‘Know your Circle’, Talisha King and Pavani Paramasivam will ‘Show their Circles’, whilst a speed dating networking session will allow you to ‘Grow your Circle’.

This Forum will be held in person at Tiwu Kumangka, 2 Young Street Blackwood, and via Zoom on Wednesday 11 September 2024 from 9:15 AM - 12:45 PM. A ‘pay your own way’ networking lunch will follow from 1:00 PM at the Belair Hotel, 141 Main Road, Blackwood.

Know your Circle: Inside and Out

Nicola Lipscombe

Circles are powerful containers for connection, mentorship, opportunities and expansion. Spaces where we learn to shape and share our own unique voices. Places where we can be nurtured and supported and challenged to expand into our own (often unrealised) potential. We all have multiple circles in both our professional and personal lives. How well do you know your current circles? Which needs do they fulfil? Where are the edges and overlaps? What new territories could be explored?

This keynote will guide participants to critically and compassionately evaluate all the different relational networks in their lives. This includes the “Inner Circle”, that particular collection of archetypes or parts we primarily listen to within ourselves. A circle quest can then begin – to consciously reshape, widen and create a new circular map. One that honours the individual, embraces diversity and invites new possibilities.

Through a unique lens of psychology, neuroscience, mythology, archetypes and storytelling Nicola will inspire you to redefine, reconnect and reshape your circles Inside AND Out.

Grow your Circle
Women’s Network Committee members, Gemma Chambers and Jayme Leis, will facilitate this Networking Speed Dating Session to help you ‘Grow your Circle’ in record time. The engaging format of this structured, energetic session will maximise your networking potential in a fast-paced, fun, yet supportive environment.

Show your Circle
Gain inspiration from two amazing women in local government as they share their stories and reflect on the meaningful impact and value of their own circles.

Talisha King
Reconciliation Officer
City of Adelaide
Talisha grew up in Katherine N.T (Jawoyn Country) and Nhulunbuy N.T (Yolngu Country), with her Aboriginal family from Gurindji, Mudburra (Kimberly’s W.A) and Waanyi (Mount Isa) Lands, and Australian British heritage from her mother’s side.

Beginning her career as a Radiographer at the Alice Springs Hospital, she found her love for healthcare which opened the door for working directly with the health needs of the Aboriginal Community as a Clinical Aboriginal Health Worker. This role allowed Talisha to progress through SA Health and into a strategic role overseeing the implementation of the Country Health SA Reconciliation Action Plan. These skills are now used to progress Reconciliation priorities at the City of Adelaide.

As Reconciliation Officer, Talisha is passionate about the positive impact her work has on fostering unity and understanding within the community. Engaging directly with diverse groups, she is privileged to facilitate dialogues that bridge gaps and resolve conflicts, which is both intellectually stimulating and deeply fulfilling. Each day presents a variety of tasks, keeping Talisha’s role dynamic and challenging. Building meaningful relationships with community members and colleagues enriches her professional experience, and the opportunities for personal growth and development are invaluable.

Pavani Paramasivam
Team Leader – Community Connection (Libraries)
City of Mitcham
Born and raised in Malaysia, coming to Adelaide to complete her Year 12 and tertiary studies, Pavani began her career in Singapore, specialising in Library Automation. Over a span of 22 years, Pavani has enjoyed a very challenging and rewarding career in Librarianship, Technology, Project Management & Leadership. This has taken her to the US, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Hong Kong, Philippines and since 2010, to Adelaide where she commenced her career within SA Local Government in 2010.

Over the journey, Pavani has learned from and been inspired by exceptional leaders, been fortunate to lead and mentor amazing people and furthermore, collaborate with talented professionals across various fields and sectors. Pavani’s 36 year career has been marked by evolving relationships and opportunities. Her formed circles have been equally beautiful and challenging. As some of Pavani’s circles have diminished, many have grown to a solid state, whilst others remain dynamic.

Her career in local government has been a highly rewarding and enriching phase of her professional life. Starting out with the City of Marion Library Service, Pavani was fortunate to work on some interesting projects as part of a remarkable circle where she was able to learn and flourish in a new environment. 2022 saw Pavani’s move to the City of Mitcham, where she continues to be inspired by a new circle of brilliant leaders and team members, collectively making a positive community impact.
