Workforce and Gender Equality in South Australian Local Government ProjectWe are pleased to launch the Workforce and Gender Equality in South Australian Local Government Project Report. A strategic initiative of the Board of Local Government Professionals Australia, SA the project was supported by the Local Government Research and Development Scheme administered by the LGA South Australia. A significant initiative, the key focus of the project is to assess and address systemic drivers of gender inequality in the SA local government sector. There is considerable momentum at this time, with Federal and State governments progressing their Gender Equality strategic plans. This project provides an opportunity to demonstrate leadership in local government in South Australia. Acknowledging the report is comprehensive, if you are short on time we draw your attention to 5.0 Executive Summary (Page 8), 5.1 Key Findings (Page 9) and recommendations 12.0 Recommendations (from page 45). Another strategic initiative of the LG Professionals SA Board is the Local Government Champions for Gender Equity Working Group. The Working Group will leverage the findings of this report to drive initiatives to build on existing strengths and successes and drive initiatives to champion social, cultural and workplace change in the local government sector. |

For quick access to a selection of Gender Equality Resources you can try the ones suggested below: Gender Pay Gap The South Australian State Government has a Gender Pay Gap Taskforce which has been researching the factors that contribute to the gender pay gap in South Australian workplaces. The Taskforce released its Final Report in March 2025. You can find it here. Gender Equality – beliefs and communication Gender Compass is an excellent report on research conducted by PLAN International in 2023. The research identified beliefs, behaviours and preferences in relation to Gender Equality and suggested ways to communicate to support and effect positive change. Read it here.
