Leaders Connect

A word from the CEO

Happy end of April!

I'd like to thank the 700 of you who recently completed our Annual Survey - we are so appreciative of you taking the time to provide your feedback and insights - these will be used to inform the future of our offerings to you. Whilst the survey is now closed, please feel encouraged to reach out to me at any time. I am always available to discuss how your Association can support you, no matter what stage of your professional development journey.

On Thursday 4 May we will welcome 17 teams to Morphettville Racecourse for this year’s Management Challenge – I’m sure most participants will be feeling nervous, excited and wondering what the day has in store. We here at LG Professionals SA know what the day has in store, and comfort zones will be stepped out of, but all in the spirit of fun, learning and growth. Best of luck to all teams, I know you will have a fantastic day.

This will be our last newsletter before the winners of our 22nd Annual Leadership Excellence Awards are announced. I have loved celebrating the finalists of each category as they are announced – if you have missed these please head over to our LinkedIn to view category finalists released so far. Finalists for all remaining categories will be released in the lead-up to the dinner.  I encourage you to reach out to those shortlisted, as a sector local government deliver so much for communities and these achievements should be celebrated amongst peers.

We are so looking forward to celebrating the amazing achievements of local government professionals on Friday 19 May.

I look forward to seeing you soon.

Best wishes
Rhiannon

REFLECTIONS ON THE BPIN RELAUNCH

The LG Professionals SA Business Performance and
Improvement Network (BPIN) held its first forum since the Network's relaunch on Wednesday 5 April 2023. The purpose of this network is to bring specialists across councils together who share an interest in improving business performance outcomes, as well as unlocking opportunities for recognition and collaboration across the sector.

This exciting and refreshed forum focused on challenging our network members to 'Think Differently'. The session was interactive and engaging, with a 'speed dating' style activity where members discussed and highlighted what problems they are currently trying to solve and identified where there are untapped opportunities for collaboration. They also shared which achievements they are most proud of and discussed what informed decision making and business improvement looks like in their respective organisations.

Common themes in the discussions included the importance of data to enable artificial intelligence, customer and human-centred design models for improvement and services, digital transformation and creating trust in our local communities to drive co-ownership and co-design in services.

Guest speaker, Amanda Cech, Manager Innovation and Performance at City of Charles Sturt shared her learnings and achievements in improvement and innovation throughout her career in the manufacturing industry and shared how she is successfully applying the same principles to drive a culture of improvement and innovation at the City of Charles Sturt.

The themes identified in this network event by attendees will be used to shape the foundation and direction of the BPIN Committee's agenda and strategic direction. Exciting times ahead!
