Leaders Connect

A word from the CEO

What an honour and privilege it is to be able to support professionals on their leadership journeys. There is so much to celebrate in local government and I was thrilled to be able to recognise hard work, collaboration and innovation with almost 500 of you on Friday at our 21st Annual Leadership Excellence Gala Awards Dinner.

Congratulations to all winners and finalists, including the 2022 winning Challenge Team – Notorious C.O.B from City of Burnside, and thank you to our sponsors for your recognition and support. Read on for the full list of winners.

This week, we look forward to the Emerging Leaders Program commencing with the Opening Retreat on Thursday where we welcome the 17th cohort of Emerging Leaders. Should you be interested in participating, we have one place remaining – please reach out to me if you are interested in taking part. This program represents a fantastic opportunity to not only increase understanding of leadership concepts and practices but also increase confidence and self awareness whilst challenging assumptions, and I would be pleased to answer any questions or provide further information.

Finally, I'd like to thank the 900 of you who recently completed our Annual Survey - we are so appreciative of you taking the time to provide your feedback and insights - these will be used to inform the future of our offerings to you. Whilst the survey is now closed, please feel encouraged to reach out to me at any time. I am always available to discuss how your Association can support you, no matter what stage of your professional development journey.

Keep safe, well and warm!

Best wishes
Rhiannon

As long-time supporters of LG Professionals SA and the Annual Leadership Excellence Awards, the team at LGRS extend our congratulations to all award finalists and winners. The Excellence Awards are a great way to recognise new emerging leaders coming into the local government sector. We look forward to working with you in the future.

Norman Waterhouse is proud to be a partner of LG Professionals SA and we always enjoy attending the Annual Leadership Excellence Awards (or as we affectionately refer to them in the office, the “LG Logies”!). Congratulations to this year’s award winners and all who took the time to nominate their projects or colleagues, shining a light on diverse achievements within local government. We look forward to the 22nd Awards next year.

SA Management Challenge wrap up

The LG Professionals SA Management Challenge was held on Wednesday 11 May, and what a day it was! The sun was shining on teams at Morphettville Racecourse, but none were to be distracted by the stunning views – they were all 100% focused on the tasks at hand!

The range of tasks certainly put our 11 Challenge teams to the test, as they were forced to respond to a variety of scenarios throughout the day. To their credit, all Challenge teams demonstrated great spirit, camaraderie and innovative thinking at every turn.

We were pleased to join teams, mentors and supporters as they came together in the afternoon for well-earned celebratory drinks, and to reflect on their experience over the course of the day.

Following the announcement of the Challenge winner at last week’s LG Professionals SA Leadership Excellence Awards Gala Dinner, we look forward to the National Challenge Final in Adelaide in August where SA will be represented by state winners ‘The Notorious C.O.B’ from the City of Burnside. Congratulations to all involved!

2022 Annual State Conference wrap up

On Friday 6 May 2022, over 300 LG Professionals SA members joined us for the 2022 Annual State Conference at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. After a challenging couple of years for the sector, the conference theme ‘Leading the Future: An Adaptable Sector’ enabled delegates to reflect on where the local government sector is heading, and how we can work together to shape the future of our communities.

A combination of uplifting, inspiring, thought-provoking and educational speakers provided delegates with several key takeaways and left everyone feeling positive about the future. Rhiannon Tracey kicked off the day with her inspirational story, which highlighted the need for access and inclusion in our communities, and was followed by Alex Hagan, Futurist, who made three predictions in his presentation which turned out to be spot on! Gary Edwards and Matthew Hobby delivered insightful presentations on the customer experience and recruitment landscape respectively, and Dayle Arblaster and Isabella Stocco Bradley spoke candidly and enthusiastically about their experience as part of the City of Mitcham Graduate Program, delivered in partnership with Flinders University.

We heard from third-generation family business member Zoe Detmold on the adaption and evolution of the Detmold brand as the pandemic hit, and were inspired by the South Australian success story that helped millions of people access valuable PPE when it was needed. Finally, the day was wrapped up with high energy speaker Kate Burr – has anyone else used ‘Flipping!’ since they’ve been back in the office!?

The Conference was also a great chance to reconnect face to face with our corporate partners and event sponsors, and we thank them for their continued support of
LG Professionals SA and the sector.

We thank delegates for their feedback on the conference and look forward to welcoming everyone back to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre for our 2023 Annual State Conference on Friday 24 March.
