A word from the CEO

As the financial year comes to a close, we celebrate our biggest year ever with just under 60 events, forums and sessions held for over 1400 of you—many of whom attended more than one. Not a bad effort for a team of just 8, including 4 part timers!

A special thanks to our staff, all of our Network Chairs and Committees, to the Board for setting the vision of growth, and to our Corporate Partners and sponsors. We are busy planning and programming for another huge year, so let us know if you have ideas for events, themes, topics—anything at all. I also encourage you to consider nominating for our Board. Information has been sent to all members. It’s a great way to shape the future of your Association and to have a real impact in supporting people on their career journey.

Save the date for our AGM—more info below.

Happy reading,
Taryn Sexton

Rural Management Challenge
After much consideration and analysis, we have made the decision to move the Rural Management Challenge to a biennial event. Many of you have told us you can only enter every other year, so we are hoping that by holding the event every two years it will be bigger and more exciting. We have also moved the event away from the School Holidays to allow for more of your staff to be able to participate. We will commence the biennual cycle this year so that the Rural Challenge does not fall in an election year.

2019 Rural Management Challenge
The 2019 event has tentatively been scheduled to be held in Adelaide on Thursday 26 September 2019.

We are seeking commitment from councils interested in entering a team, prior to confirming the event for this year. If we receive commitment from eight councils the event will be viable. Please express your interest by emailing

"Novelty mayors are Iowa's number one source of tourism after coming into town to buy Sudafed," one of the characters says.

But in the California mountain town of Idyllwild, the fact that their mayor is a dog is far from a joke ... read more

About Local Government Professionals Australia, SA

LG Professionals, SA is a not-for-profit member based association representing professionals working in local government in South Australia.

We have the ability to link and connect people from different councils who may not otherwise form relationships or share.

Our high quality professional development programs and networking events are uniquely local government – reflective of the culture of the sector and sensitive to the needs of its professionals.

The content of our events and programs are informed by our members and people who genuinely care about the sector.

We provide a safe and supportive environment in which to grow and learn while creating opportunities to make time away from the office to work on the business or on self.

We award and acknowledge achievements of excellence.

We are proud to be part of a national Federation of State based Local Government Professionals Australia organisations, supported by a national office dedicated to supporting the National Local Government sector.
